Apple has completed its first acquisition of a video game development studio, but the company emphasizes that this move does not signal a shift in the iPhone maker’s overall strategy, putting to rest speculation that followed this unprecedented step.
The acquired studio is called RAC7, a small team of just two people, known for creating the popular game Sneaky Sasquatch, which achieved significant success on Apple Arcade back in 2019. Moving forward, RAC7 will continue its partnership with Apple but now as an internal studio operating under the Apple umbrella, according to an announcement made on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025.
A spokesperson for Apple told Digital Trends that the company loves Sneaky Sasquatch and is excited to have RAC7’s team join Apple to continue developing the game. They added that Apple aims to keep delivering outstanding experiences to Apple Arcade subscribers through hundreds of games created by some of the world’s best developers.
Reports have also indicated that Apple considers this acquisition an exceptional circumstance an opportunity to support a small development team to grow and unlock its full potential. The company made it clear that this acquisition does not necessarily mark the beginning of a new gaming strategy. Apple will continue to collaborate with third-party studios to develop games for the Arcade service.
