Apple Gaming App Alongside |
Recent reports suggest that Apple is preparing to launch a dedicated gaming application around the same time as the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. This move is seen as part of Apple's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the gaming market.
The new app will reportedly come pre-installed on a range of Apple devices, aiming to unify the company’s gaming efforts. According to a Bloomberg report, the app will feature a centralized achievements system, global leaderboards, and integrated communication tools tailored for gamers.
The official announcement of the app is expected to take place during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9 just four days after the anticipated launch of the Switch 2. The new app is set to replace the long-standing Game Center, which first debuted in 2010 but has seen minimal updates since.
Apple’s upcoming gaming app will also integrate with Apple Arcade, the company’s premium gaming subscription service. Apple Arcade offers access to a curated selection of new and classic games for a monthly fee. In addition, the new app will include editorial content related to games on Apple platforms, offering users recommendations and updates on the latest titles.
Notably, this announcement coincides with Apple's first acquisition in the gaming industry independent studio RAC7. The two-person team is known for developing Sneaky Sasquatch, a hit game on Apple Arcade released in 2019. Going forward, RAC7 will operate as an internal studio within Apple and continue development on its popular title.
